Alcester & Ragley 1st XI 113 all out lose to Catherine-de-Barnes 114-8 by 2 wickets
Sat 1sts report - what a difference a week makes - away at catney.
Batting first we were soon 20-3 against some lively pace. Pilko, max & shuts contributing just 3 runs between them, of which max got 3 ! Having seen off the opening quick lays was stumped off the spinner for 6, wabrick left one and was bowled - well it seamed in about a foot just after I'd told him this bowlers doing nothing ! I was brilliantly caught at short mid wicket for 31 and Wrighty got cleaned up by the other spinner from one that bamboozled him by not spinning - reggae 50-7. Debutant young melon junior at 14 years old, not 17 lads although I think he was the tallest amongst us, mad 2 which was a decent score in the circumstances and he departed at 60-8. jacko and skipper melon senior then made the rest of us look very ordinary as they added a superb 50 partnership in just 8 overs. Jacks to the fore as he smot bowlers to all comers before being bowled by the slowest seam bowler you will ever face for 34, nightwatchman mole entered the fray and tucked a lovely 4 through square leg to give Ragley hope of a decent total but his skipper had other ideas as he was caught close in for 12. Ragley all out 113 in 32 overs.
in the field ragley the ground running and layts had a stone dead lbw turned by an umpire who did not have the best of games shall we say to keep it clean. Catney openers helped themselves to some boundaries and the score was at 31when Jacko had Hanlon brilliantly caught at slip by pilko for 8. The score moved on to 46 when skipper fat head had the other opener mason well caught behind by max for 21 with his first delivery. Scurge of reggae over the years stibbo came in and showed his intent hitting several boundaries before an inspired piece of slow bowling by Warbrick tempted stib to hit the ball out of the ground - which he duly did - however the change of ball turned the game immediately. First ball with it warbrick had stibbo caught behind by max who now had 2 catches standing up as keeper in his first game in that position - beginners luck ?! Next ball the new batsman helped a full toss from Warbrick straight to layts - 76-4. This became 76-5 as max held onto another standing up is time off sticky. The next batsman had a few lusty blows but Warbrick bowled the next 2 batsman and sticky bowled his partner to leave catny on 99-8. It was at this stage that it was announced that one of th remaining batsmen had gone home so they were in effect 99-9 from no where in no time - the game had been turned on its head. Catney needed 15 to win with the small matter of 33 overs to get them in. First ball of the 21st over sticky had the number 10 even more plumb lb than the one earlier in the innings only for this to be turned down as well! from the same moire. Tempers frayed but confident we should still be able to do it but 3 swipes that all went for 4 took the game away from us and th game was won in the next over with a scampered 2. Top bowling from Warbrick 4-22, sticky 3-28 and Jacko 1-34 almost gave us an unlikely victory and in the end a deserved victory but it was not to be. Well battled everyone we need to keep this going for the rest of the season.
