Alcester & Ragley (230-6) 1st lose to Catherine-de-Barnes (185-3) by 7 wickets
1st XI match report v Catherine de Barnes at home
Ragley were asked to bat first and made a good start with Dave Pilkington to the fore until he played an injudicious shot and was adjudged lbw for 26 (45-1). Dave Swinburn also added 26 in good time before hitting a full toss back to the bowler to be caught and bowled (106-2). Ben Lee was getting into his stride by now before looping a simple catch to point for 57.(67 balls ) (120-3). Adam Warbrick and Richard Layton then lofted the spinner for 3 sixes in one over and a total well over 250 looked on the cards. However Warbrick (23) and Layton (38) were out and the runs dried up somewhat. Ben Shuttleworth and Ollie Swinburn lifted the final total to 230-6 which is higher than we achieved all last year in the prem.
In the field Ragley started aggressively and took the prized wicket of skipper Mason for 0 to a smart catch in the gully by warbrick off Layton. Scourge of Ragley for many years Stibbon came in to bat and chanced his arm to alleviate the pressure, but being the obliging hosts he was put down twice before he had scored 10. Then the rain came and it lead to a wicket. However as we came off for rain catney were 65-2 from 11 overs. After we resumed catney needed a further 120 from 25 overs. They did it with an over to spare with Stibbon 95 not out (dropped a couple more times to help him on his way ). Good bowling displays from layts, warbrick and Ollie but some work required as usual on our fielding. All in all a very good batting display to work on and some positives in the bowling.
